The Thawing & My Upcoming Trail Run

I don’t want to get my hopes up, but there’s a chance that winter might finally be over. And I think today was the official turning point.

Yesterday morning was still the same old 30 degree temps we’ve had for the last 839265477 mornings. My thickest gloves still left my fingers frozen on my early morning dog walk, and after my run (where once again I covered my hands with my trusty plush purple socks), it was so cold I tried taking a picture where you could see my breath.

Hand Socks & Foot Pain

I did not write a post this weekend. I was busy. Or rather, I chose to make time for other things over writing. Which happens sometimes and that’s okay!

I had some trouble running on Saturday. It was about 17 degrees, which wasn’t even where the trouble was. Actually, one positive thing about that run was that I wore mittens for the first time! Only they weren’t mittens – they were socks. Two pairs of warm, winter socks I never wear on my feet but for some reason own.

Lemme HIIT That

I decided to do an indoor workout today. It’s one of my favorite Fitness Blender routines that I’ve probably mentioned before (sorry I don’t feel like checking) and that I want to try to do once a week: a 44-minute total body workout that incorporates major-sweat-inducing HIIT (HIIT means “stuff that makes you exhausted”), cardio, weights, abs – the works. It’s like a baked potato with all the toppings, only the opposite of that in terms of calories.

Basement Jacked

MORE RAIN! I don’t understand why it was raining this morning. Last night my dog-themed weather app said it would not be raining this morning. So then how come it was raining this morning? Weather should be 100% predictable!!!

So today I settled for an at-home workout, opting for something a little more challenging than just an upper body strength training routine: I chose one from Fitness Blender that incorporates upper body, lower body, and HIIT. It’s short but intense, and I feel like I got in a little cardio, at least. The only thing I really don’t like are burpees, mostly because I have weak wrists and it’s really uncomfortable to bend them, so I wind up leaning on my knuckles or fingertips to do burpees, which is tiring.

I Love to Streak

This morning’s workout was Fitness Blender’s Get Strong! Upper Body Workout for Strength with Descending Reps. The only drawback for me is that because the weight is supposed to be increasing as the reps are descending, I have a tendency to start out with a weight that’s TOO low. I really need some new weights. The highest I use is 12, and I do that by holding a 10 lb. and a 2 lb. in the same hand. Between weights and new running shoes, I may have some shopping to do this weekend.
