Speed work day! It was so wonderfully warm on this morning. Even before dawn, when I went out in the backyard to let the dogs pee, it honestly felt tropical. A tank top and shorts was the way to go for the run; I even would have been fine in a sports bra, and now that I think of it, I’m not sure why I didn’t do that.
It is Monday morning at the time of this writing. I’ve started writing this blog post three times and still haven’t gotten around to finishing it. I’ve been busy; I’m preparing to move out of my mom’s house and into my own apartment (I’ll spill all the juicy deets about that in another post). This involves not just packing up my stuff, but packing up all of my mom’s stuff. And my grandmother’s stuff, much of which my mom kept. Letters, books, clothes, pots, wine glasses. Old bills, broken remotes, thousands of photographs. Preparing for an estate sale (a phrase I never thought I’d say). Donating items. Packing things. Throwing stuff away. Many trips to the recycling bin. Bubble wrap. Boxes. Tape. More tape. And even, some more tape.
This will be just be a quick post about this morning’s track work at my good old alma mater, Northport High. I drove there and back, something I don’t normally do as the track is only a 11 or 12 minute run from home. But I’ve decided that, at least for the remaining time I’m living here, I want to take advantage of my time and energy on speed work days and use them for the actual speed work itself.
This morning marked my triumphant return to the high school track and, yes, speed work. It is time for the speed work. I took some time off from the speed work, and now I am back. Welcome back, speed work. I’ve missed you.
[Salt-N-Pepa voice] Let’s talk about strength-train-ing!
Is that reference too old? If so, wonderful.
I’ve been doing a lot of strength training, HIIT, and cardio workouts over the past few weeks to make up for the running I haven’t been doing. Weights, lunges, burpees, squat jumps, boxer shuffles, deadlifts, and ab work have dominated my mornings as of late.
