The In-Between

Apparently, running a marathon and writing a recap about it sapped my energy so much that I’ve neglected to write here for two weeks. I think I did need some time off in more ways than one, so no regrets. I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things. I have another race recap to post (my Thanksgiving Day turkey trot!) but I felt like I needed a refresher post first – what I’ve been doing since the marathon and how I’m bridging the gap to my next one.

The Beast Within: 2018 TCS NYC Marathon Race Recap

I tend to write lengthy race recaps. This is due to my inability to discern important details from unimportant ones – every single event that happens in my life seems to hold equal weight, and I want to mention it all. For this recap, I will try my best to summarize lest I write a post that makes War and Peace look like a set of Cliffs Notes by comparison. I won’t break down every single mile because, honestly, I don’t remember every single mile. That said, I want to give a good overview of what the lead-up to the race was like, what the race was like, how I felt afterwards, and what newcomers to the NYC Marathon can expect in following years.

Let’s face it, this is going to be long.

Marathon Training: Week 16 Summary

Week 16 of NYRR’s Marathon Virtual Training 16-Week Program was the final week of training. The work was done. The hay is in the barn, as they say.

I started writing this post before the marathon, but since I didn’t have time to finish it, I am now writing this after the marathon. I will include everything that happened up until race day, which will be another post unto itself.

Marathon Training: Week 15 Summary

Week 15 was my second week of tapering and my second-to-last week of marathon training. I’ve been following NYRR’s Marathon Virtual Training Program for the TCS NYC Marathon, a great decision I made on the spur of the moment back in July.

This was a good week, although it ended on a sad note. But I’ll get to that.

Marathon Training: Week 14 Summary

Week 14 of my 16-week NYRR Marathon Virtual Training Program was the first in my 3-week taper phase – meaning I could relax a bit. Just a bit. I had just completed a 22 mile run the Sunday of week 13, and was due for a couple days off this week. So this summary shouldn’t take long! I hope! Who am I kidding, I can’t be succinct for my life.

First of all, that New Balance waist belt thing I bought at the NYRR store and wore for my 22 miles on Sunday? I didn’t even realize this until the following morning, but it caused a cut in my back. Here’s a pic once it was healed a bit:
