I took two days off from running to do strength training, so my body was happy to run again this morning. I got in a solid hour of running in 24º weather – not unbearably cold, but close to it. I dressed for it, so I was fine.
I stopped only to take this pic – I am a sucker for pink and red sunrise skies, and they only stick around for a few minutes. This was about 7am.

It’s time for another post about BAKING!
By the way, I am not a baker. I mean, I have baked. I will bake. But I don’t create recipes. I don’t know how. I still have to double check labels to see if I’m using baking soda or baking powder, and I always forget what either of them do or how they’re different. I know one container is square and one is circled shaped.
So that’s where I’m coming from.

After spending Monday recuperating from my Longest Run Ever – and boy, I needed to – I was ready to get out there again this morning. I was well-rested, having luxuriously gone back to bed Monday morning after feeding the dogs, eventually getting up at ten-freaking-thirty in the A.M. After that I did an upper body strength workout, had lunch, and spent most of the day indoors.

This morning I hit a new distance PR: 13.02 miles. Aw, my PR is a teenager! Adorable, yet petulant. This it the farthest I have ever run.
I’m trying to gradually increase distance, but also: I am running a half marathon next weekend. My first. So I wanted to feel what that distance was like before I raced it. (I stopped .08 miles short of a complete half marathon, but I think I have it in me to go the distance next week.)

This morning I ran for an hour. Six miles. Sluggish again. I felt a tiny bit stronger today, but my pace was slower. More hills though. I ate a few coconut date rolls before I headed out, but I might not have slept enough (five and a half hours). It was also very windy. Maybe that was my problem. The wind. I’ll say it was the wind.

Before I write this post, I need to make a little note to self:
YOU HAVE TO EAT BEFORE YOU RUN, YOU BIG DUMB IDIOT.
Cool, I hope it sticks with me now.

I wanted to write a short post about this, because I find it interesting and I’m trying not to put things off as much in 2018. So here we go.
I use myfitnesspal to track everything I eat. Not everybody subscribes to this method, but it’s worked for me. It doesn’t work for everybody, and that’s okay. Personally, I love the discipline and consistency and effectiveness of it. It works for me so I do it.

So it seems that 25º F is smack right in between “comfortably cool” and “uncomfortably frigid” when it comes to running. Not quite the balmy 32º of yesterday morning, not quite the impossible-to-breathe air of last week. I’m still figuring out exactly the right thing to wear each morning based on what my weather app says.

It’s been cold out and I’ve been feeling blechhh.
But before I get to that, I’d like to point out the highlight of my day so far, which, I’m sorry to say, was not my run. It was Anderson Cooper reading one of my tweets on air.

I’m going to start incorporating posts about food into this blog. Hooray! We all love food. I know I do! Case in point:
