Mask Me, Mask Me, Mask Me

Mask Me, Mask Me, Mask Me

I was short on time this morning so I just did a repeat of yesterday’s 3 mile run – a little faster today. Getting back on track with my pace, thankfully.

It was as cold as a witch’s tit again this morning. I fear that if the weather continues like this, it’s all I’m going to write about on here. I will try not to. But I will today!

I wore pretty much the same thing I did yesterday, only with a few modifications:

  • Yaktrax Explorer Cabin socks* worn under regular ankle socks
  • thin $10 gloves from H&M as my base layer gloves under the thicker ones
  • a fleece scarf wrapped around my face in lieu of a thin tube scarf

*buy one get one free at Dick’s Sporting Goods right now!

The only thing that didn’t work out was the scarf. It was too thick and I couldn’t breathe right. So I pulled it down, but then it was so cold I couldn’t breathe right either. By mile 2 (like yesterday) I gave up trying to cover my face. But by the end of mile 3, I was breathing audibly, kind of coughing on each exhale. I probably sounded like I was having a heart attack.

I KNOW I need a face mask. Sorry, balaclava. I KNOW I should just order one online. But because I am impatient (and cold), I’ve spent the past 24 hours trying to find one in person and it’s been IMPOSSIBLE. Dick’s Sporting Goods on Long Island was COMPLETELY OUT OF STOCK except for a hunter’s mask with fucking leaves all over it and a kids one in a rainbow pattern. Modell’s in Times Square today had ONE face mask in the entire store, but it was made of fleece and didn’t look breathable. And the following stores – in the event you happen to be in Times Square looking for a balaclava – do not carry them: Champ’s Sporting Goods, Foot Locker, SIX:02, Old Navy, Uniqlo, and I’m still waiting for the NYRR store on West 57th to get back to me.

Also? IF IT’S A SET OF DOUBLE DOORS, GO IN THE RIGHT ONE AND GO OUT THE RIGHT ONE. DO NOT GO IN OR OUT A LEFT DOOR FOR THE LOVE OF GOD AND ALL THAT IS HOLY.

I LOVE TIMES SQUARE!!!

Just kidding, it’s the worst. If you visit NYC, avoid it. It’s dumb.

Eh, I’ll just order one online. I also want a new pair of headphones. I’m not crazy about the ones I’ve been using and they’re too bulky under my hat.

It was too cold to do anything fancy with today’s picture. Then again, when am I ever fancy?

  1. Girl, you are a badass for braving these temps! I have bundled up and cold weather run for years and thought this year would be no different. Then like a month ago I went out on a run and was suddenly like–“nope, not this year, i’m done, inside I go!” I think since the marathon I’m in a “I have nothing to prove” running stage, lol. Way to stay after it, very impressive. It’s f-ing FREEZING!! Love your commitment! Happy New Year! x

    1. Ha yeah it is a little insane to be outside in this weather! Maybe because I still haven’t run a marathon (and plan to this year) I’m still in my “gearing up” phase. Happy new year as well!!
