2017: The Stats

Do you like numbers? I like numbers. Some people think numbers are boring. This post is not for those people.

2017yearlysummary

All of these stats are from mapmyrun since I only got my Garmin in early November. Take some of these with a grain of salt – the number of calories I burn while lifting weights has always been a guesstimate based on what my workout gurus from fitnessblender suggest. Step count, which has depended greatly on my phone being in my pocket, is not always accurate. Still, it’s fun to look back on a year of movement and see what I’ve accomplished.

There was a definite split between the first somewhat unmotivated half of the year and the second more ambitious half, with my most intense activity happening over the summer. I ran slightly fewer miles in the fall due to shorter races that replaced long runs, and a more intense work schedule that cut down on my running time a bit.

Numbers are fun!

My goals for 2018 include increasing all of these numbers.

I think I can easily run 1300 miles in 2018. That’s 25 miles a week. I can do that. But 1500 is such a nice number. That’s 28.85 miles a week. Hmm. More than what I’ve been doing. But doable. I know a lot of people ran 2017 miles in 2017 (38.79 miles a week), and while I admire those people, I’m not sure I’m there yet. Who knows, though – I might surprise myself.

I will definitely do more races. I didn’t really get going with races until late in the summer, and right now I already have a bunch of potential ones on my calendar for early 2018. I will easily beat my 2017 race numbers.

I’d like to smash all of my PRs. SMASH THEM. TO PIECES.

I’ll write more later today about what else I’d like to accomplish in 2018, and why I don’t make New Year’s resolutions. Cramming in ALL the blog posts before the end of the year.

In the meantime, I highly recommend watching The Twilight Zone marathon on Syfy – one of my favorite New Year’s traditions.
